Pirate Voyage In Myrtle Beach: What To Know Before You Go

Eat· Travel

3 Jul

When visiting Myrtle Beach, I saw one of the most amazing dinner shows that I have ever been to. It was like Cirque du Solei and Medieval Times had a baby and named it Pirate Voyage. I can say that, I’ve been to multiple shows of each Medieval Times and Cirque du Solei, so I am a self-proclaimed expert. I would totally go to this show again and again. If you have yet to visit the spectacular show, then here is what to know before you go.

I revived tickets to facilitate a review. As always, my opinions are my own.

I tend to take weekend trips. I am usually busy with work, my son’s school and activities that we have to take trips within long weekends to make them happen. There was a time we visited Myrtle Beach and it was just that, a quick trip. To make the most out of a trip like this, you may have to make good use of time. With Pirate Voyage, you can eat and see a show; it’s a win-win!

My friend had the regular meal and said it was delicious. The regular meal is;

  • Voyager Creamy Vegetable Soup
  • Buccaneer Bread
  • Half O’ Roasted Cackler (Chicken)
  • Captain BBQ Pork
  • Cob O’ Buttery
  • Pirate Herb-basted Potato
  • Apple O’ Me Eye Pie
  • Unlimited Coca-Cola®, tea or coffee

I got the vegetarian option. Which consisted of the same soup, bread and dessert, but the entree’ was pasta and veggies. I personally try to limit my pasta intake as much as possible, so I would have liked to have other options for us vegetarians.

They also offer a gluten free option, so make sure you tell your waitress when you arrive (or even better when you book).

Like other dinner shows I’ve attended, you’re greeted with entertainment from the moment you arrive. However, at Pirate Voyage, it was on a whole other level. You can totally browse through the store for souvenirs, grab a drink, snack or get your face painted in Pirate Village.

I am so glad we were there early to see the jugglers, balancing act, sing-a-longs that all kept us laughing hysterically. I would have been mad at myself if we missed it. It was enjoyable to watch even without the actual show, it was that entertaining.

Now, for the main event. When I stated that Pirate Voyage was a cross between Medieval Times and Cirque du Solei, I wasn’t lying in the least. It…was…amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it and would totally see it again and I would see it even without the dinner. The stage is Captain Blackbeard’s ship that sits in a 15-foot indoor lagoon.

The action-packed show will entice you with mermaids rising from the depths of the lagoon, acrobats cascading throughout the room, animals keeping you laughing, and much, much more. The show doesn’t stay in the water alone. The mermaids will ride above the water and  you’ll see pirates flying throughout the room. It’s eye-catching and will keep you on the edge of your seat. My son was so engulfed in the show that he was barely eating, and he loves bread, pasta and desserts!

There is a moment where the room will go dark and a black light will glow the stage. Smoke arose from the water and skeletons appeared from the depths of the lagoon. It was probably one of my favorite parts of the show.

10 Tips to Know Before Visiting Pirate Voyage Dinner Show

Kids at Pirate VoyageKids at Pirate Voyage
  • Bring cash for gratuity isn’t included in the price of the ticket. Setting aside around 15%-20% per person is a good idea.
  • Bring cash or your card if you want alcoholic drinks or an appetizer in Pirate Village before the show.
  • Arrive early enough to not only see the pre-show, but to get dolled up like a mermaid or transformed into a pirate (for an extra charge).
  • Purchase pirate gear before you go to save some extra cash (I got a kit from Dollar Tree).
  • Get in character and come dressed like a pirate.
  • Bring a sweater or light jacket. If you’re like me then you may get cold.
  • Visit with the animals if they’re outside before entering the show. They’ll be in their cages near the parking
  • Bring a glow stick for the kids
  • Bring your camera; capture the memories to share with others. There are plenty of pirates roaming around that would be more than happy to snap a shot with you or your family
  • Go back during Christmas to see their holiday show. It will be a different experience than the regular show.

Would I Visit Pirate Voyage Again?

Absolutely! Actually you could have answered this question for me. I loved every second of the show and was totally submerged in the show from beginning to end. It is truly a piece of art.

Pirate Voyage is located at: 8907 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
